Practice History

GPLambourne 1977.jpg

Dr. Gregory Lambourne was a ready and willing new doctor in 1978.  Headhunters were not a thing in the medical profession in the late 1970s.  There was no wooing young docs to come to underserved communities. Finishing residency, doctors made their own interviews to look for practice locations.  The Michigan State Medical Society had a newsletter posting needed physician opportunities. Dr. Lambourne visited Hart, Ludington, and Manistee before deciding on Mercy Hospital of Cadillac.

Sister Ricardo (Mercy Cadillac Administrator) recommended he start a practice in Lake City.  He initially rented office space from Dr. Ernie Garma on East John Street, starting practice on July 5, 1978.  In 1980, he purchased Ruell Brothers used car lot and remodeled into the present office building.

Cecily Lambourne (a nurse) was his first employee in the office.  Her responsibilities included the titles of “Freda Front Desk,” “Betty Bookkeeper,” and “Nancy Nurse.”  She worked until their first daughter, Katie, was born in January 1981. Their second daughter, Meghan, arrived in 1983.  The girls and their Cocker Spaniel would hang out in the office on weekends while Lambourne worked.
